Fighting crime might save the day, but it doesn't necessarily pay the rent -- unless you're hooked up to a sweet SHIELD paycheck -- so who could blame particularly cash-strapped superheroes from planning their own superheist to make ends meet? That's the hook of Caper, a new web series from Amy Berg and Mike Sizemore due to premiere next year on the Geek & Sundry YouTube channel.
The comedy reunites Berg with Leverage star Beth Riesgraf, who plays one of the four superheroes forced to consider a life of crime in order to fund their crime-fighting lifestyle. Riesgraf isn't the only familiar face on the show; Glee's Harry Shum Jr., Justified's Abby Miller and Hartley Sawyer of TBS' Glory Daze round out the main cast. The series will be directed by Donald Murphy, who has previously worked with the Coen brothers and Oliver Stone.
Described as "a fun and colorful comedy about friendship, community and what it takes to be a hero," Caper -- which begins production today -- will join Felicia Day's The Guild as an original scripted content component of the popular (more than 700,000 subscribers to date) YouTube channel spearheaded by Day, which also features content from other nerd figureheads (Wil Wheaton!) alongside blogs from the fan community.

Iran is planning a fresh round of talks on its nuclear program "in a few weeks" after a generally positive first round of multiparty meetings in Geneva aimed at defusing tensions with the West.
Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif, commenting on his Facebook page, says the next meeting with the five permanent members of the United Nations Security Council plus Germany would also be held in Geneva.
Reuters, quoting a western diplomat, says the talks are set to resume in Geneva for two days beginning Nov. 7.
On Tuesday, Tehran presented a plan to the United States, Russia, China, Britain, France and Germany to end the confrontation over its nuclear program, which it has always insisted is for peaceful purposes.
"[Comments] from Western officials meeting with Iranian negotiators indicated interest in the proposal, described by Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi as designed to allow Iran to leave the 'dark' path of international isolation.
Previous rounds have often been fitful and sporadic, reflecting the deadlock between the two sides. Zarif's Facebook comments that negotiations will resume 'in a few weeks' strengthened expectations that some progress was being made. He said the follow-up will also be held in Geneva, the venue for the ongoing talks."
The election of moderate President Hassan Rouhani four months ago has opened the door to negotiations over Iran's nuclear program, which many Western analysts believe is aimed at acquiring a bomb.
England and defending champion Spain qualified for the World Cup on Tuesday night along with Russia and Bosnia-Herzegovina, which earned its first berth as an independent nation.
Chile and Ecuador earned the final two automatic spots from South America. Another berth was at stake in the North and Central American and Caribbean region, the 21st of 32 slots for the field in Brazil next June.
Wayne Rooney scored in the 41st minute and Steven Gerrard in the 88th to give England (6-0-4) a 2-0 win over Poland at London's Wembley Stadium and first place in Group H by one point over Ukraine (6-1-3). The Three Lions qualified for their 14th World Cup and fifth in a row.
"We have a great togetherness, are there for each other and proved we can perform under pressure," Gerrard said.
Spain (6-0-2) won Group I with a 2-0 victory over visiting Georgia on goals by Alvaro Negredo in the 26th minute and Juan Mata in the 61st. Iker Casillas returned to starting lineup for Spain after being replaced by Victor Valdes against Belarus last week. The Spanish, who have won three straight major tournaments, including the 2008 and 2012 European Championships, qualified for their 10th straight World Cup.
"It may look practically routine, but it's important to remember how successful we've been at qualifying," coach Vicente Del Bosque said. "This is not an easy competition."
France (5-1-2) was second and will be in the playoffs despite defeating visiting Finland 3-0 on goals by Franck Ribery and Karim Benzema around Joona Toivio's own goal.
Cristiano Ronaldo's Portugal, Greece, Ukraine, Romania and Iceland also finished second in their groups, winding up in Monday's draw for the eight-team European playoffs next month along with Sweden and Croatia. The four playoff winners also will earn berths.
With a population of just over 300,000, Iceland would be the smallest nation to qualify for a World Cup. Trinidad and Tobago, at about 1.3 million, was at the 2006 tournament in Germany.
The seedings for the playoffs will be determined by Thursday's FIFA rankings. Denmark (4-2-4) had the poorest record among the nine second-place teams and missed out on a playoff berth.
Bosnia (8-1-1) won 1-0 at Lithuania on Vedad Ibisevic's 68th-minute goal to win Group G on goal difference over Greece. Bosnia-Herzegovina gained independence from Yugoslavia in 1992. Almost 10,000 fans jumped, cried and screamed 'Vamos Bosnia' — or 'Go Bosnia' — when Ibisevic scored in Kaunas.
Fans headed to the airport after the game to wait for their team to arrive in the middle of the night and join the party.
Greece (8-1-1) defeated visiting Liechtenstein 2-0 as Dimitris Salpingidis scored in the seventh minute and Giorgos Karagounis added a goal in the 81st.
Russia (7-2-1) won Group F with a 1-1 tie at Azerbaijan as Roman Shirokov scored in the 15th. Portugal (6-1-3) finished a point back after defeating visiting Luxembourg 3-0 on goals by Silvestre Varela, Nani and Helder Postiga.
Italy, which already had clinched, tied Armenia 2-2 at Naples. Former Real Salt Lake forward Yura Movsisyan scored in the fourth minute for the visitors. Alessandro Florenzi and Mario Balotelli scored for the Azzurri, and Giueseppe Rossi entered in the 73rd minute for his first international appearance since Oct. 7, 2011. A 26-year-old forward who was born and lives in New Jersey, Rossi had been sidelined until last May by a knee injury late that October, which required three operations.
After clinching last week, Germany rallied for a 5-3 win at Sweden as Andre Schuerrle had a second-half hat trick following goals by Mesut Ozil and Mario Goetze.
A 2-1 win by Chile (9-6-1) over visiting Ecuador (7-5-4) earned both nations berths. Alexis Sanchez scored for Chile in the 35th minute and Gary Medel added another three minutes later, while Felipe Caicedo scored for Ecuador in the 66th.
Uruguay (7-5-4) was fifth on goal difference after a 3-2 win at home over already qualified Argentina (9-2-5) and will play a home-and-home playoff against Jordan, the fifth-place team in Asia. Cristian Rodriguez and Edison Cavani scored around a Luis Suarez penalty kick for the hosts, and Maxi Rodriguez had two goals for the visitors.
In CONCACAF, Honduras was three points ahead of Mexico for the region's last automatic berth, and Mexico was three points ahead of Panama for fourth playoff and a playoff against Oceania champion New Zealand. The U.S., which clinched last month, was at Panama, while Mexico was at Costa Rica, and Honduras at Jamaica.
In the African playoffs, Ghana routed Bob Bradley's Egypt national team 6-1 in the first leg of the home-and-home, total-goals series. The second leg is scheduled for Nov. 18 in Cairo.
Bradley was hired by Egypt in September 2011, 15 months after Ghana beat Bradley's U.S. team 2-1 in the second round of the World Cup. The Pharaohs, ranked 50th, have not qualified for the World Cup since 1990.
The 24th-ranked Black Stars have eliminated the U.S. in two straight World Cups and were knocked out by Uruguay on penalty kicks in the 2010 quarterfinals.

Despite the common fear that those annoying tip-of-the-tongue moments are signals of age-related memory decline, the two phenomena appear to be independent, according to findings published in Psychological Science, a journal of the Association for Psychological Science.
Anecdotal evidence has suggested that tip-of-the-tongue experiences occur more frequently as people get older, but the relationship between these cognitive stumbles and actual memory problems remained unclear, according to psychological scientist and lead author Timothy Salthouse of the University of Virginia:
"We wondered whether these self-reports are valid and, if they are, do they truly indicate age-related failures of the type of memory used in the diagnosis of dementia?"
To find out, Salthouse and Arielle Mandell an undergraduate researcher who was working on her senior thesis were able to elicit tip-of-the-tongue moments in the laboratory by asking over 700 participants ranging in age from 18 to 99 to give the names of famous places, common nouns, or famous people based on brief descriptions or pictures.
Throughout the study, participants indicated which answers they knew, which they didn't, and which made them have a tip-of-the-tongue experience.
Several descriptions were particularly likely to induce a tip-of-the-tongue moment, such as: "What is the name of the building where one can view images of celestial bodies on the inner surface of a dome?" and "What is the name of the large waterfall in Zambia that is one of the Seven Wonders of the World?" Of the pictures of the politicians and celebrities, Joe Lieberman and Ben Stiller were most likely to induce a tip-of-the-tongue moment.
Overall, older participants experienced more of these frustrating moments than did their younger counterparts, confirming previous self-report data. But, after the researchers accounted for various factors including participants' general knowledge, they found no association between frequency of tip-of-the-tongue moments and participants' performance on the types of memory tests often used in the detection of dementia.
"Even though increased age is associated with lower levels of episodic memory and with more frequent tip-of-the-tongue experiencesthe two phenomena seem to be largely independent of one another," write Salthouse and Mandell, indicating that these frustrating occurrences by themselves should not be considered a sign of impending dementia.

BEIJING (AP) — David Lee scored 31 points and grabbed six rebounds to lead the Golden State Warriors to a 100-95 preseason win over a Kobe Bryant-less Los Angeles Lakers on Tuesday in China.
Stephen Curry added 24 points for the Warriors, while Andrew Bogut had 14 rebounds and nine points. Lee finished 12 of 16 from the field.
"The way it's supposed to work is that we can get some stuff on the inside early in the game and that will open up the outside for guys like Steph to shoot 3s as the game goes on," the center said.
Nick Young led the Lakers with 18 points. Pau Gasol had 15 points and Chris Kaman scored 14 with 10 rebounds.
Although Bryant made the trip to China, he's sitting out the games to nurse a torn Achilles tendon and an ailing right knee. He was clearly missed by the Chinese fans, who chanted his name throughout the game.
Gasol said the Lakers faded defensively in the third quarter without their star.
"We don't know when Kobe's going to get back," Gasol said. "But until that point we just have to play hard as a team as we've been doing, and making sure we can't wait for him to get back and everything to fall into place at that point."
The Lakers play a second exhibition game in Shanghai on Friday.
The Warriors trailed 11 points at the end of the third quarter, but tied the score at 84 with just over seven minutes remaining on a 3-pointer by Curry and never trailed again.
Golden State coach Mark Jackson said Curry has been healthy the entire offseason.
"I thought tonight for the first time in a long time he had a rhythm and he was the best player on the floor," Jackson said. "It was great to see and we expect tremendous (things) from him throughout the course of this season."
Curry said the team played "probably our best half in the second half all preseason."
The Moffat County girls cross country team ran tough in its final meet before the 3A regionals in Delta next Friday.
The Bulldogs took second in the Rifle Invitational at Rifle Creek Golf Course Thursday afternoon, with senior Brenna Ciesco winning the meet in a time of 20 minutes, 35 seconds.
Emily Womble has continued her surge in the second half of the season, placing fourth in 21:05. Makayla Johnson (21:32), Jesse Suits (22:03), Aubrey Campbell (22:24) and Kaylee Durham (22:34) also ran well for MCHS.
The boys team, once again running without junior Jarrett Johnson, took third overall in the meet. Steven Walls led the way for the Bulldogs in 18:55. Other times were not available as of Friday afternoon.
The regional meet is in Delta Oct. 18, with the top five teams advancing to state in Colorado Springs Oct. 25.
Parks and Rec seeking basketball officials
The Craig Parks and Recreation youth basketball leagues for third through sixth graders are coming up soon, and Parks and Rec is seeking officials for the games.
Prospective officials must inquire about the 2013 season by Oct. 16.

Week four of Craig BCA in the books
The Craig Billiards Congress of America (BCA) pool league is now through four weeks of play, and the standings are still tight.
One-Eyed Bandits is still the No. 1 team in the league, but has not been able to pull away. At 678 points, they sit 21 ahead of Git R Done (667).
It is less than 40 points to go from second all the way down to fifth. Odd Ballz is just behind Git R Done at 658 points, while Out 4 Blood (643) and Uh-Oh (630) are also lurking.
Even No Ex-Cue-Ses, sitting in last currently, is not far back at 615 points.
BCA has chosen to cancel its Sunday league for now due to lack of interest. According to an e-mail from the league, it may restart during the winter.

Winter water aerobics beginning soon
Registration for water aerobics during the winter is now open through Craig Parks and Recreation.
Water aerobics offer a low-resistance method of training and can improve fitness and flexibility. The classes, held at Moffat County High School will be Mondays and Wednesdays from 7 to 8 p.m. beginning Oct. 28.
