Amber Portwood: Barred From Seeing Leah in Prison?

With multiple stints in jail from failing to adhere to terms of her probation, followed by a five-year prison sentence, Amber Portwood has had a rough 2012.

The Teen Mom star's downward spiral makes Jenelle Evans look stable. But is she really barred from seeing her daughter until 2017, as rumors suggest?

Fortunately, Amber's brother Shawn tells E! she's in a "mandatory reception period" where she can't see Leah, but after that, visitation should resume.

"They are in the process of transitioning her from one place to another," Shawn Portwood said. "After that, it's only a matter of time before she sees Leah."

The Indiana Department of Corrections concurred, saying Amber is "currently going through an intake and diagnostic process and is not allowed visitors."

There will be no exceptions during this period, typically 2-3 weeks, even those permitting Amber to see her daughter, due simply to "normal protocol."

"The purpose of this is to get them ready for the facility that they will be assigned to," he adds. "Once she is there she will then be allowed visitors."

Shawn notes that his sister "has to undergo therapy" and reiterates that "when she is done with processing then she will be able to see Leah."

"She is not being treated any differently than anyone else."

As it turns out, Amber might not have to serve out her entire five-year sentence. With good behavior, it could be cut in half with parole. Here's hoping?

Do you ever tire of hearing that a Hollywood remake is in the pipeline, when the ink has hardly dried on the original script? Like "The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo", "Cell 211" and "Let The Right One In" before it, this is another that has had the green light for an English language version. It's easy to see why there would be interest in this as it's an exceptionally good thriller. I just don't see why it's necessary to have it redone. Roger Brown (Aksel Hennie) is a high-flying businessman who works as a headhunter. He scouts potential applicants for executive jobs. While interviewing them, he learns very useful information that leads him to his second source of income: a sideline in executing valuable art robberies. His extravagant and expensive lifestyle can't be funded by his headhunting job alone. One particular interviewee is Clas Greve (Nicolaj Coster-Waldau). He has all the credentials for a post that Brown needs to fill but he also has just inherited a piece of art that will cure all of Brown's financial woes - if he can just get his hands on it. As it turns out though, this art theft is not as simple as his previous ones and Greve is not as buttoned up as he makes out. As this film opens we are introduced to unlikely leading actor Aksel Hennie who has an appearance that resembles the love child of Christopher Walken and Steve Buscemi. He's not your average leading man and his character is not that appealing either. He's a self-centred weasel of a man that seems to lack any morals but you know that things are, not entirely, going to go to plan for this scheming, double-crossing thief and that's exactly what captures your attention and provides the hook in this adaptation of Norwegian writer Jo Nesbo's novel. Director Morten Tyldum is wise enough to play his cards when he needs them and wrings out the suspense, masterfully, at every turn. He mounts the tension slowly before staging one gripping scene after another. The unpredictability of the spiralling plot delivers genuine excitement, helped immeasurably by natural characters and performers. Hennie in particular, is absolutely brilliant and will no doubt become a household name after this (apparently he already is, in his native Norway). Kudos to screenwriters Lars Gudmstead and Ulf Ryberg. It's their tight, deliberately paced and unpredictable script that keeps you guessing and shows a good level of intelligence. Admittedly, I haven't read the novel but if I were author Jo Nesbo, I'd be very proud of the job that has been done here. When the headhunter becomes the headhunted, this film grips like a vice and refuses to let go. I've seen quite a few film's from Scandinavia over recent years and have been very impressed with the high standard they are delivering. This is no exception and a thriller that will definitely compete with the best of the year.

APNewsbreak: 2 terror suspects arrested in London

LONDON (AP) ? Two Muslim converts have been arrested in London on suspicion of terror offenses, a British security official told The Associated Press on Thursday, although it remains unclear whether the men were arrested as part of an alleged plot.

The official, who spoke on condition of anonymity he was not authorized to discuss the matter publicly, said he didn't know whether the arrests were related to the upcoming Olympic Games.

Security is tight ahead of the London games, which begin on July 27.

Intelligence officials say there has been an expected increase in chatter among extremist groups but there are still no specific or credible threats. The terror level is labeled substantial, a notch below severe and what it has been for much of the past decade. A substantial threat level indicates that an attack is a strong possibility.

This week European security officials told AP that they were tracking a Norwegian Muslim convert who had gone to Yemen for training and had since become "operational."

London's Metropolitan Police Service did not immediately return calls seeking comment on the arrests.

Suu Kyi holds no grudges against jailers

PARIS (AP) ? Myanmar opposition leader Aung San Suu Kyi said Tuesday that she holds no grudges against the military regime that kept her under house arrest for some 15 years and, instead, views it as a group she can work with as the country moves toward democracy.

Her focus is on practical matters, Suu Kyi said at a news conference, not "abstract ideas of justice."

Suu Kyi talked to the press after a meeting with President Francois Hollande on the first day of a four-day visit to France that closes out a European tour that has taken her to Switzerland, Norway, Ireland and Britain. She and the French president were having dinner Tuesday night.

The Nobel Peace Prize winner has been a world symbol of courage and hope for facing down Myanmar's military regime, which ruled for 49 years until last year. She is now helping the country usher in what many hope is a transition to democracy. And pragmatism seems to be her watchword.

"I certainly do not bear any grudges against the military regime," she said. "I never think of them as those people who placed me under house arrest for so many years. This is not the way we bring about national reconciliation.

"I think of them as people with whom I would like to work in order to bring reform to our country."

Hollande, at her side, said France intends to support all those involved in the democratic transition so that Myanmar achieves a "full and complete democracy."

He cautioned that France will keep a vigilant eye on financial transactions and industrial projects that a more open Myanmar will likely attract.

It was unclear whether he was making reference to the French oil giant Total, which has been present in Myanmar for decades under military rule there, and became the object of criticism.

Suu Kyi said she wants "democracy-friendly, human rights-friendly" investments that protect the environment of her country, which she refers to by its colonial name, Burma. However, she added, "I do not want to be shackled by the past."

She said that "we must go forward to the future," and that Total has compensated people displaced by a gas pipeline. She also said investment in technology would be welcome from France and others.

"We would like to give everybody an opportunity to engage in business that actually strengthens the process of democratization," she added.

Suu Kyi, who turned 67 this month during her trip, is emphasizing youth during her visit to France and, during her news conference, the word "future" constantly found its way into her remarks.

Among her activities in France is a conference-debate on Thursday with some 1,400 students at the Sorbonne University. Education is vital so that the new generation can carry the ball, and anchor the hoped-for democracy once people like herself retreat from the foreground, she said.

Youth make up 32 percent of Myanmar's population and play an important role in Suu Kyi's party, which was the big winner in partial parliamentary elections in April.

On Wednesday, Suu Kyi was to meet with Foreign Minister Laurent Fabius, and to plant a "tree of liberty" in the ministry garden.

She has been collecting honors during her travels conferred on her many years ago while she was trapped at home, including the Nobel Peace Prize in Oslo and an honorary degree from Oxford, which she once attended.

In Paris, she will pick up an award on Wednesday granted in 2004 that made her an honorary citizen of the city of Paris.

On her European travels, Suu Kyi has been accorded the attention of a diva. Asked at the news conference if she sees herself as the icon she embodies for many in the world, she scoffed, calling it unsettling, even if she understands the human need to put a face on everything.

"I represent the human face of the movement for democracy in Burma, and I think that is where it should remain," she said. "I'm always very disturbed when people speak of me as an icon. Icons just seem to sit there doing nothing at all ? and I work very, very hard, I assure you."

Debby floods neighborhoods in northern Fla.

SOPCHOPPY, Fla. (AP) ? Debby destroyed homes and businesses, washed away streets and flooded neighborhoods in Florida before the once-large tropical storm drifted out to sea Wednesday, leaving behind a sopping mess.

At least three people were killed in the storm. More than 100 homes and businesses were flooded and officials warned the waters may not recede until next week in some places. The storm knocked out power to hundreds of thousands of customers, though most had electricity restored by the time Debby left the state.

The tropical storm formed in the Gulf on Saturday and gradually made its way across the Florida, drenching the state for several days before it weakened to a depression. The windy, rainy weather ruined vacations for some.

In Live Oak, a small city in northern Florida, water was up to the roofs of some homes and cars were submerged. In other places, residents stood in several feet of water as they checked out the damage to their homes.

"The water came in so fast last night," said resident Johnny Torres. "We were lucky to get out what we could."

In Crawfordville, a small town located in the crook of Florida's elbow just south of Tallahassee, main roads were impassable.

"There's more water that anybody, no matter how old they are, has ever remembered seeing," Wakulla County Commission Chairman Alan Brock said. "It's not just people on the river, it's neighborhoods, it's places that have never been flooded."

Even though Debby lost its strength, emergency management officials said they expect the aftermath to continue causing problems with swollen lakes and rivers, along with record rainfall.

"It's not over. We've got a long way to go," said Brian Koon, the director of the Florida Division of Emergency Management. "We'll be dealing with flooding for the next week."

Several of the state's rivers in the north reached historic levels, Koon said. The Sopchoppy River reached its peak Wednesday at 36.1 feet. Before the storm, it was 8 feet.

More than 200 people stayed in shelters across the state Tuesday evening.

Koon's department and FEMA will begin the formal damage assessment process on Friday. There was no immediate cost estimate for the damage.

The storm dumped about 10 inches of rain on Tampa and nearby more than 15 inches on the small city of Brooksville. Cities in the state's north fared worse: In Wakulla County ? home to Crawfordville ? 26 inches of rain fell over a 72-hour period, according to the National Weather Service.

Authorities on Wednesday confirmed another storm-related death near St. Petersburg.

Armando Perez, 71, was found dead in flood waters outside of his Indian Rocks Beach home, the Pinellas County sheriff's office said. Perez had a heart attack and officials said he likely couldn't out of the flood to get help.

Over the weekend, a woman died in a tornado in Florida and a man disappeared in the rough surf off the coast of Alabama.

In the Tampa Bay area, clouds gave way to spotty sunshine Wednesday and the water that had flooded some roads began to evaporate. City workers in Tampa carted felled trees and raked debris off Bayshore Boulevard, a 4.5-mile stretch that hugs Tampa Bay. It had been largely underwater and closed for days.

The Salvation Army handed out 1,000 personal hygiene kits to residents in three counties and would bring a mobile shower unit to people displaced by the floods in the Lake City area.

Along the state's beach communities, other worries emerged.

In Manatee County, nearly 200 endangered sea turtles lost their nests, while in Pinellas County, entire colonies of nesting seabirds were wiped out.

"I've never seen anything this bad here in this area," said Barb Walker of the Clearwater Audubon Society.

Walker added that some eagle nests were also destroyed and more than a dozen baby deer were separated from their mothers during the storm ? but most of the babies were reunited with their herds.

There is some hope for the sea turtle population, said Suzi Fox, the director of Anna Maria Island Turtle Watch and Shorebird Monitoring.

Although she estimated that some 180 nests in the county were destroyed, she saw 11 new nests on Wednesday morning. The turtles have six weeks of nesting season left.

"It's a gorgeous day. The waves have died down, the sun is out and the beach is flat," she said. "We have 11 nests laid on our beach as of last night and we're so excited. That's very encouraging."

Old School New York Pot Roast & Gravy

Serves 10-15

1/2 eye-of-round roast, about 5 pounds
1 tablespoon chopped oregano
1 tablespoon chopped rosemary
1 tablespoon chopped thyme
1 tablespoon chopped marjoram
2 tablespoons kosher salt
1 tablespoon freshly-cracked black pepper
1/2 cup canola oil
1 pound medium yellow onions, quartered
1 pound carrots, chopped into large chunks
2 teaspoons kosher salt
1 teaspoon freshly-cracked black pepper
1/2 cup juicy red wine
1 tablespoon unsalted butter
1 tablespoon all-purpose flour

Pat the roast dry and rub with herbs, salt, and pepper. ? Place in a bowl and let sit to marinate covered for 2 hours at room temperature.

Add oil to a Dutch oven over high heat, and once smoking hot, add the roast and sear to caramelize, about 1-2 minutes on each side. ?Carefully remove the meat and set aside. ?Still over high heat, add the onions and carrots, season with salt and pepper, and deglaze with the wine. ?Add a 1/2 cup of water and place the meat back in the oven. ?Cover and cook on the stovetop over low heat until fork tender, about 3 hours.

Remove the meat and let rest on a cutting board while you prepare the gravy. ?Strain the vegetables from the cooking liquid and set aside. ?Place the Dutch oven back on the stove over medium-high heat. ?Add the butter and flour to make a dark rue by stirring vigorously, being careful not to burn. ?When a light brown paste is formed add back the cooking liquid, stirring until smooth and simmer to thicken, about 10 minutes.

Carve your roast, and serve family-style with vegetables and gravy!

For this month's design challenge, I am again using Captiva Island for inspiration, but in a totally different direction. Shells are natural elements and there is nothing natural about this month's design inspiration.

The inspiration comes from a magical place called The Bubble Room?(fyi~their website has music if you want to turn your speakers down or off first).

And because a good chunk of their decor is Christmas themed, and this is a challenge, and thinking about Christmas in July is definitely a challenge, it's a match made in heaven. Plus I just think it sounds like fun and hope you do too.

You can view this room by standing at the top of the stairs inside the restaurant and looking through a window down into the room. I wrote this back in 2005 and have modified it a couple of times since mainly so that I could more easily consume RSS on the move. Mitt Romney's Sons Tried To Convince Him To Not Run For President

Mitt Romney's five sons made a rare joint public appearance on Thursday evening, when they sat down with Conan O'Brien to talk about their father's presidential campaign.

While appearing on TBS' "Conan," the five Romney brothers-- Tagg, Matt, Josh, Ben, and Craig -- weighed in on how their lives may change if their father wins the election.

"We?re nervous about it,? Josh, the middle brother, said. ?It?s one of those things. Our lives are pretty good as they are, but this is one of those things where we recognize it?s good for the country for my dad to run but not necessarily good for us, so we are going to try and keep our lives as normal, as consistent as they can possibly be over the next few years.?

Josh said that his father's failed bid for the Republican nomination in 2008 made the family wary of another campaign.

"We knew what we were getting into this time, so we were definitely more hesitant," Josh said.

Matt, the second oldest of the Romney sons, admitted that he had similar reservations about his father's second stab at the presidency.

"I didn't want him to do it," Matt said. "I tried to convince him not to. I think there were a few of us who tried that ... but I just felt like, for us as a family, this isn?t the best thing. But, as Josh said, for the country we think it?s the right thing."

The Romney sons have had a relatively small role in their father's 2012 campaign, largely staying out of the spotlight except for a few election night appearances and fundraising efforts. In 2008, they had a much more prominent role: an RV known as the "Five Brothers Bus" was a regular sight at campaign stops, and the brothers maintained a blog that offered details from life on the trail.

• The Huntsman Girls

  Former Utah Governor Jon Huntsman's three oldest daughters made a name for themselves by tweeting from the campaign trail using the <a href="http://twitter.com/Jon2012girls" target="_hplink">@jon2012girls</a> account in 2012. Liddy, Mary Anne and Abby, all in their mid-twenties, have steadily gained followers since the campaign. Huntsman's daughters have also done a slew of television interviews, and have produced a few campaign videos of their own--most notably, <a href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iOYVB2hc0HA" target="_hplink">a parody</a> of Herman Cain's infamous smoking ad.

• Meghan McCain

  Arizona Senator John McCain's daughter was a staple on the campaign circuit in 2008, often blogging about life on the trail. Meghan, who has been vocal on issues like same-sex marriage and abstinence-only education, hoped to help her father connect with the younger generation of voters. The 27-year-old has since parlayed her campaign season fame into a career as a political commentator. She writes a column for the Daily Beast, released a campaign memoir in 2010 and was recently hired as an MSNBC contributor.

• The Romney Brothers

  Former Massachusetts Governor Romney's five sons, who were a frequent sight on the campaign trail in 2008, have reemerged to support their father in his latest presidential bid. Oldest son Tagg has been giving interviews and <a href="http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2011/12/13/mitt-romneys-son-tagg-to-woo-young-gop-donors_n_1144965.html" target="_hplink">courting</a> young GOP donors, while middle child Josh meets with voters in Iowa. Craig, Mitt's youngest son, has also made a few appearances with his father.

• Rand Paul

  Sen. Rand Paul (R-Ky.), the son of libertarian Ron Paul, has been active in his father's latest presidential campaign. He often sends e-mails on behalf of the elder Paul, a congressman from Texas, and has made appearances on the trail to stump for his dad.

• Elizabeth Santorum

  Former Pennsylvania Senator Rick Santorum's 20-year-old daughter--shown here during her father's unsuccessful re-election bid in 2006-- was a fixture on her dad's failed 2012 presidential run. Currently a student at the University of Dallas, Elizabeth took time off from her studies to meet with voters in Iowa, host events and give radio interviews.

• The Palins

  In 2008, GOP Vice Presidential nominee Sarah Palin's family made a splash on the campaign trail. The former Alaska governor's five children--Track, Bristol, Willow, Piper, and Trig--often appeared at campaign events with their mom, even after news broke that teenage Bristol was pregnant.

• Beau Biden

  Beau, Delaware's Attorney General, introduced his soon-to-be-VP dad Joe at the 2008 Democratic National Convention. His speech, which detailed the auto accident that killed his mother and sister, moved some delegates to tears.

• Sarah Huckabee

  Mike Huckabee's daughter, Sarah, took on a bigger role in her father's campaign than the usual routine of stump speeches and photo-ops. She acted as her dad's field director and top campaign adviser, and reportedly played an integral role in her dad's surprising Iowa caucus win.

• Cate Edwards

  Cate first started campaigning with her dad, a former Senator from North Carolina, while an undergrad at Princeton in 2004. During his 2008 campaign, she started making campaign stops on her own in key states like New Hampshire. After news of her father's affair broke, her role took a decidedly different turn as she stood by Edwards during his perp walk from a Winston-Salem courthouse.

• The Bush Twins

  The Bush Twins were notably absent on the trail in 2000, but became more publicly involved in George W. Bush's reelection campaign in 2004. They made appearances on their father's bus tour through swing states, and worked at the campaign's Arlington headquarters.

Italy can't wait to play England in quarterfinals

KRAKOW, Poland (AP) -Italy hasn't met England in a major tournament in 22 years, and the excitement among the Azzurri for Sunday's European Championship quarterfinal match is palpable.

Midfielder Daniele De Rossi can't wait to measure himself against Steven Gerrard, while reserve forward Alessandro Diamanti called the match in Kiev "a dream" that he thought could only be realized on a computer game.

De Rossi added that temperamental forward Mario Balotelli, who plays in England with Manchester City, is "used" to dealing with the British tabloid press and that he won't be affected by any negative media coverage before the match.

Italy's last major tournament match with England came in the third-place game at the 1990 World Cup, when host Italy won 2-1.

The only other time they met at a Euros or World Cup came in a group match at Euro 1980, when the Azzurri won 1-0. Their last meeting overall came in a friendly 10 years ago that Italy won 2-1. Only captain Gianluigi Buffon remains on Italy's squad from that match.

However, most of the Italy players have faced English teams with their clubs, and they are not lacking familiarity with the likes of Wayne Rooney, John Terry and Ashley Young.

"It's not like we're discovering England now," De Rossi said Wednesday. "Gerrard has always been my idol and he's a player who's been at the top level of the game for 10 years. But they've also got many interesting young players, especially on the wings.

"And (England coach Roy) Hodgson has experience in Italy, so they know how to defend, too."

De Rossi has been lauded as a "universal" player for his ability to change positions, even standing in the middle of Italy's defense for the first time in the opening two group matches.

"The compliments have been nice, but Gerrard is the real universal player," De Rossi said. "He can close down in defense and contribute in attack. I still need to acquire some of his characteristics."

Five years ago, De Rossi's Roma squad was humiliated 7-1 by Manchester United in the Champions League - a loss that still hurts.

"When I think about, I've never really made an impact against an English squad," De Rossi said. "But I've never faced England's national team - not even at the junior level. It's an honor to play against such a great squad. I've played in a lot of matches with the national team, so this gives me a new reason to get excited."

With 75 appearances, De Rossi is the third-most senior member of Italy's squad. Diamanti, coming off just his second appearance, is one of the most inexperienced Azzurri players.

"I thought a match like this could only be played on PlayStation. It's a dream," said Diamanti, who had a brief spell in England with West Ham in 2009-10, and is now with Bologna. "They're football is 30 years ahead of ours, but on the pitch we're stronger."

Balotelli helped City win the Premier League title last month, but he was also constantly under the tabloid spotlight for his temper - in January he received a four-match suspension for his stamp on Tottenham midfielder Scott Parker - and misadventures off the field.

"He's more used to this pressure than we are," De Rossi said. "They talk a lot about him because he's a really great player, he's young and he plays in England. ... Balotelli is fairly grown up for a (21)-year-old, but he's still just a kid.

"I'm convinced he'll play this match without any problems. We're not worried about scandals, we're locked up in our hotel."

De Rossi also had kind words for his former Roma coach Fabio Capello, who resigned from the England job in February.

"Capello can create fear. With all do respect to (Hodgson), he adds value," De Rossi said. "With Roma, he took me from the youth team to the first squad and under him I joined (Italy's) under-21 squad and was ready for the senior national team. Saying I owe everything to him isn't saying enough."

One area Italy knows it can't compete with England in is fan support.

Azzurri fans have already been greatly outnumbered in each of their group matches, with large pockets of empty seats in the area allotted to them.

"These are tough financial times and we can't expect our fans to come en masse like the English do," De Rossi said. "But hopefully we can still keep winning and creating excitement. ... History shows that Italy plays its best in these big matches."
