3 keys to managing diabetes (what worked for me)

The main three things to remember about diabetes are:

  • diet
  • exercise to burn off carbs
  • and medication.

Used in tandem, these things will keep you from secondary problems like ocular disease and problems with your extremities.

Beware of bad moods. When you feel like crap, it shows up in other people around you.? My marriage almost ended because my diabetic husband was sporadic in taking medication, drank too much and neglected his diet.? His angry moods almost destroyed us.

Buy a glucometer and keep a log. I finally put my foot down with hubby and make him take his pills regularly ? bought him a Sunday to Saturday sectional pill box so he wouldn?t forget to take his meds.? If he does I put his pills in my hand, get a glass of water and watch him take them.? That is rare now, since I put my foot down he tows the line.

Diabetes is manageable.? But you have to understand that it is a disease which requires adjustments to your lifestyle.

Get enough sleep, and don?t stress about this. Be grateful to Banting and Best who pioneered the science that led to the discovery of the cause of diabetes.

Be gentle with yourself and don?t blame yourself. No one knows why some people get it while others don?t.? There is a link to heredity, though.

I wish you the best of luck.? Get on the Get Better Wagon and ride it to ripe old age.? There is no need to panic.? Just do the do things.? God bless you and keep you in His loving care.? Oh, and one more thing ? see a dietician. He or she can guide you to a happy diet.
