Malawi?s international award winning freelance journalist, Frazer Potani, has been nominated for the prestigious 2012 Diageo Business Reporting Awards and is expected to fly to London, United Kingdom by the end of June.

Potani, who won several awards both at home and on the international level, is a finalist in the Bes Business News Story ?alongside Alexander Dziadosz (Reuters, UK) and Adedayo Oketola (Saturday Punch, Nigeria).

Potani?s story ?When donors are stoned, the poor pay price? was published on November 21 on the Netherlands based Africa News online newspaper and also posted on Nyasa Times.

?I feel greatly honored, humbled and very excited because this is not a mean achievement in my career. I can?t hide my excitement that I will be representing Malawi at this prestigious event where awards are given to the cream of business journalists from all corners of the world,? said Potani.

Potani: Nominated

Last year Potani carried Malawi?s flag after his feature article ?When climate change is witchcraft? scooped a Special Prize in United Nations Environmental Programme (UNEP) Ozone Awards for Africa in the tiny islands nation of Seychelles where he received a certificate and a $500 cash prize.

A consultant with Diageo, Katherine Ambler confirmed Potani?s nomination as one of the finalists and invitation to the Diageo Business Reporting gala night.

?Diageo will arrange [Potani?s] transport to and from London for the ceremony, and will also organize accommodation. He must organize his own visa for travel to the UK, but Diageo will refund him the cost of this,? said Ambler.

According to Diageo winners will get 500 British Pounds Sterling each and a trophy.

Diageo Business Reporting Awards were launched in 2004 to recognize journalists whose works have shown excellence in objectively reporting business.
